Freezing procedure stallion
For
the last 7 years we freeze semen of stallions. Some of the stallion
owners deliver the semen which they have collected themselves to our
laboratory for freezing and storing. We only handle semen of horses for
the Dutch market because the EU guidelines request that the semen is
collected and frozen on the same premises where the stallions are in
quarantine. The techniques of freezing, assessment of quality, quality
of handling semen and storage are equal to an EU certified laboratory.
Collection of semen, transport to the laboratory, transport of frozen
semen to the user and inseminations are always done by a third party
(e.g. stallion owner, large animal vet).
The extenders and the technique of freezing are developed by Cryolab
and we achieve good results in practice. We review the semen quality
with the very modern computer assisted semen analysis (CASA) equipment.
Every batch of semen becomes a objective certificate and the analysis
is digitally stored.
