Storage and transport
Just
like freezing, the storage of semen is done under liquid nitrogen (-196
degree Celsius). The storage of the straws filled with semen and
extender is done in specially designed containers. These containers are
computer controlled and automatically filled with liquid nitrogen. This
process of storage is very safe and secure. Every year the semen owner
pays for the storage in advance. This includes insurance to the extend
of the freezing costs and the stud fee in case of damage or accident.
For transport of semen we use a different kind of container in witch
the liquid nitrogen diffuses into the wall of the container. Thereby it
can stay frozen for approximately 14 days. This type of container has
the advantage of safety because leakage of liquids is not possible,
witch is very important particularly during air transport. We rent
these so called dryshippers to our clients. |
