Main goal of freezing semen is to eliminate the time factor on the male side of fertilization. By freezing it is possible to maintain the semen in good shape for a very long time. This facilitates the management around fertilization and makes it possible to transport semen throughout the world. Semen can be used for future generations. However despite advanced techniques it is inevitable that one looses some fertilizing capacity. Freezing and thawing of semen damages the sperm cell. The lifespan of frozen semen after insemination is shorter then fresh-extended or fresh semen. The ability to freeze semen of specific species or individuals within a certain species can vary enormously. For freezing we use 0,25 or 0,50 cc plastic straws.

For identification of the straws we use inkjet or stickers. Click to watch a
video. The cost of freezing semen is different for the various species and includes a certificate and the storage for the first year. All costs need to be paid immediately at the time of freezing the semen.
